I founded Shulmen Construction LA, but the story behind it started long before the company ever had a name.

I built it out of a real love for construction, out of years on the job site, and out of values that were passed down to me through my family and the people who walked alongside me. When I stand on a job site in Los Angeles today, I know exactly where I came from to get here.
 

Three Generations of Working With Our Hands

My grandfather was a carpenter. He worked with patience and respect for the material, and the smell of wood and the precision of his craft are some of my earliest memories. From him I learned, even without many words, that there is real value in clean work, in the small details, and in turning raw material into something strong, useful, and beautiful.

My father carried that path forward in his own way. He was a maintenance contractor for marble and stone plants, an environment that demands strength, precision, and accountability, along with a deep understanding of material and machinery. From him I learned what it means to make sure everything works, what it means to hold to a standard, and what it means to do work that has to last.

Between my grandfather's carpentry shop and my father's stone plants, I grew up in a world where things are built, repaired, and done right.
 

A Path Shaped Early

I was drawn to construction from a young age. I saw how you could build from the ground up, repair, reinforce, expand, and improve structures so they could serve the people living in them better.

Over time I came to understand that construction is far more than what you see from the outside. It is also what hides behind the walls, beneath the floors, and inside the bones of the house. Those lessons are the foundation of who I am today.
 

The Mentor Who Shaped Everything

Over the years, my path was shaped more than anything by Robert, a seasoned professional with fifty years of experience in construction. Robert was far more than a mentor to me. He was a teacher, a guide, and a true friend.

For years we worked side by side, and he shared with me a deep well of knowledge built over decades. But beyond the technique and the tools, he gave me a belief I still carry today: that every project, big or small, deserves integrity, precision, patience, and respect. He believed that when a person puts their home in your hands, you owe it your full seriousness.

We lost Robert to COVID-19 when he was seventy. Losing him was hard, and his absence is still felt. But his voice is in my head on every walkthrough, on every tough call, on every small detail most people would never notice.

His standards, his work ethic, and the respect he had for this trade still guide the way we work. For me, carrying these values forward is not just a professional commitment, it is personal. Every project we take on is part of that legacy.
